OLD NEWS

Hooray! After fifteen years on the shelf, When Hell Freezes Over will finally have its World Premiere February 2006 at Beari Productions in Middle Village, NY! More as it develops ...

The Stevens Dramatic Society of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, gave an excellent presentation Standard Deviation November 11-13, 2004, at DeBaun Auditorium on the Stevens campus. The director is long-time friend and colleague Christina Cass! On the12th they hosted a Q&A with Christina, the cast and myself.  The SDS was a joy to work with!

Type A just garnered an Honorable Mention distinction from Stage 3 Theatre Company's Eighth Annual Festival of New Plays. From out of 266 entries, it made the top 25. Although it didn't make the finals, they were kind enough to forward some glowing comments!! You can read some of the highlights by clicking here.

Not Merely Players, a professional not-for-profit theatre of inclusion, is looking to produce Nobody Knows I'm a Dog in their 2005-06 season. Not Merely Players is, at its core, of, by, and for men, women and children with disabilities -- though they do not do works about disabilities. To quote Artistic Director Gene-Gabriel Moore:

... we stage plays in which the theme is "disabilities" and plays in which disabilities or disability issues are mentioned not at all. On my stage talented actors with disabilities perform side-by-side with talented non-disabled actors. That is a must in the professional wing of NMP, where at least one major role is played by a person with visible disabilities.
More on this production as it develops!

Though not a production of one of my plays, I just appeared in a musical revue at the end of May.  The show, Broadway Goes to the Movies, was presented by the Parkside Players.  I was singing and dancing (yes, singing and dancing) in many ensemble numbers, as well as singing a solo or two (and playing Mellophone a little).

Performances have just finished for Beari Productions' East Coast Premiere of Standard Deviation.  The cast included NKIAD alums Miriam P. Denu, Sylvia Vinall and Dolores Voyer.  Also on board were Bob Acerno, Rene Bendana, Ted Frank and Donald Gormanly.  The show was an overall blast!  Kudos to the cast and the good folk at Beari for a great experience!

The good folk at Theater 199 in Sophia, Bulgaria, have taken Nobody Knows I'm a Dog out for a walk -- specifically the theater festival in Blagoevgrad on May 17th, as well as the International Theatrical Festival "Varna Summer" on June 8 and 9!

F2F had been chosen Winner of the Joyce Dutka Arts Foundation 2002 Playwrights' Award!  They held a wonderful reading on May 19th, 2003, at the Irish Arts Center.  The reading featured the talents of Mary Testa and Ron Palillo, and was directed by Shari Upbin.  The show got great audience reaction, and Mary, Shari and Ron were not only super talents but some of the nicest people I've ever had the honor to work with!

The Villager has posted a nice interview with Yours Truly about the Red Room production of Nobody Knows I'm a Dog. (Please overlook the fact that they have a picture of Miriam Denu but label it as Sylvia Vinall.)

The Williams Lake Studio Theatre in British, Columbia, hosted the World Premiere production of Type A, and it did GREAT! You can see some dialogue about the production by going here.

Theater 199 in Sophia, Bulgaria, is still running Nobody Knows I'm a Dog in repertory.  I hear the reaction has been great, and the ads are Eye-Poppin'!  Check out one of them here.  As a matter of fact, I liked it SO much that I stole the concept outright!

The New York City Off-off Broadway production of Nobody Knows I'm a Dog finally closed after an 8-month run.  The show opened November 3rd, 2002, at The Red Room, and transferred uptown to The Producers Club where it played its last performance.  Of course, the show is still available to anyone wanting to produce it ...

And, just so you know that it's still out there and kickin', Nobody Knows I'm a Dog was just selected as a finalist in the 2002 New Century Writer Awards. Okay -- it was a Quarter-Finalist. But, to quote them: "To be listed on his page [of finalists] is an accomplishment."

Dullsville has just pulled out of the gate and won honors (third place, actually) at Columbia Entertainment Company's 2002 Jackie White Memorial National Children's Playwriting Contest.

An outstanding review of Parkside Player's production of Second Bananas was published in the Queens LedgerYou can read it here.

Speaking of newspapers, I got a BIG article on me specifically in The Queens Chronicle on 2/28/02.  I even made the cover! Click here to go read the article!

There was another unauthorized production of Nobody Knows I'm a Dog out there (or, to be precise, Niemand weiß, dass ich ein Hund bin) at the Fachhochschule (Kreuzberg), Audimax in Zweibrücken. I have no further information about the production, who is doing it or which language it is in. If ANYONE knows anything about this, please let me know.

The Parkside Players in Forest Hills, New York, finished their production of Crap in March, 2002, and it was a huge success!  Reviews were very positive and attendances were high!  Keep in mind that the play was renamed Second Bananas to accommodate.
